Durga Puja Pictures

Spanning essentially over ten days, Durga puja celebrations become livelier with the rhythmic sounds of Dhak (a type of drum), Dhunuchi nachh (a regional dance form performed especially on day 8) and Shiuli (a beautiful fragrant flower). All Durga Puja celebrations in Calcutta conclude on Dashsmi. On this day, as the idol is taken out on a decorated chariot for immersion in the River Ganges, all Bengali ladies play with vermillion. This particular event is referred to as Sindoor Khela in local dialect. Durga Puja 2010 will be celebrated on:

Shasti – 6th day
Saptami – 7th day
Ashtami – 8th day
Navami – 9th day
Dasami – 10th day

Each day has its own significance and festivity.

Picturesindia brings to you Durga Puja pictures showcasing various festivities associated with Durga Puja.

Vivacious Indian Festivals

The Indian festivals speak volume about the country’s rich cultural and traditional backdrop. It implicitly brings to light the richness and diversity of India in all its endearing aspect. India is a land of myriad festivals, where the young and the old alike participate with full enthusiasm and vigor. There is celebration for every occasion, which is marked by vibrant colors, music, festivities and dance. The Indian mythology overflows with ancient stories of kings, queens, gods and goddesses. They are the reason for giving birth to the wide variety of festivals that we celebrate today. Although, our country is advancing at a faster pace towards its development, the festivals are very much celebrated in the same light and with the same zeal as it was years ago. An interesting phenomenon is the venturing of the foreign tourists into our land to imbibe themselves about India festivals. They are simple awe struck at our multiplicity and enthusiastic fervor. Celebration helps in binding and fortifying our relations with our family, friends and close ones. Everybody gets into the mood spreading laughter and joy all around.
The joys, the colors, the rituals, the food and many more has inspired Picturesindia to showcase all these in the section - “Indian Festivals”. The photos on Indian festivals reflects the cultural heritage and customs in a mesmerizing way. Further to enhance this section we have added few photos on the upcoming festival Raksha Bandhan . The Rakhi thal, different threads of love and affection and more are absolutely free of cost, you can personalize and use them for various purposes.
